WF: First of all, it is a pleasure for WrestlingFever, to do this Interview and
we thank you for this opportunity. How are you doing?
AOS: I'm doing
fine. I'm enjoying being here in Germany. I'm trying to see as much of the
German countryside, cities, and Women as I can. I'm also working out at the gym
Mon - Fri to keep in shape while I am here.
WF: Byron, you are the Angel
of SIN, how did you become this character and what does it stands
for?
AOS: Well... I was wrestling in Dallas as 'Sin' a few years ago. One
of the veterans of the Texas wrestling scene Mike Foxx took an interest in me.
He took me under his wing. He started a stable called the 'Faithful'. Foxx later
started telling the fans he was their 'Dark Messiah' He needed an enforcer and
he christened me his Angel of SIN. So AOS was created to destroy any and all
that got in the way of the Dark Messiah's goals!
WF: You are from
Louisiana, so you started your training in the Dog Pound, which is the wrestling
school of Rodney Mack and Jazz. Can you tell our readers more about your first
steps into the wrestling business and your trainers?
AOS: I've watched
wrestling since I was a little boy at my Grandmothers house. I always wanted to
do it. However I really didn't know how to get in the business. So I went to
college and got a Bachelors degree in Aviation Management at Louisiana Tech in
Ruston, A. During my senior year my little brother saw a commercial for a
wrestling school on TV. It was run by Dr. Death Steve Williams I ended up
training there for 7 months until the school closed down due to Doc getting
throat cancer. I then started touring Texas and meeting other wrestlers in
Texas. I met Rodney and Jazz right after they were released from WWE at two Indy
shows. I ended up moving to Lafayette to train with Rodney and Jazz. I was their
first student at the Dogpound. I trained with them for two years 2-3 times a
week. We ended up going on the road and wrestling all over the south. Training
and traveling with them helped me gain a wealth of knowledge and skill! They
were/are true friends of mine and I owe them my success in wrestling.
WF:
Do you remember your first match and what was it like to wrestle in front of an
audience for the first time?
AOS: Yes I do. My first match was against a
guy named Mace. I wasn't that great I froze up! Luckily Mace carried me trough
it.
WF: You are a pro wrestler for about four years now. Can you share
some of your career highlights with us?
AOS: Recently I have been in a
feud with Big Bad John Heidenrich. Also I have been feuding with another
Dogpound graduate named Haniel T. We put on some of the best matches in
Louisiana for 2007-2008. I also got to wrestle Rodney Mack at the end of last
year. I look forward to continuing our feud in Arkansas when I get back to the
States.
WF: Right now you’re on tour in Germany, What goes thru your
mind, when you think about wrestling in Germany and Europe in general?
AOS: Well I have only been to one German show. I can see that the fans
are very appreciative of the wrestlers work. I think the German wrestling is
similar to American wrestling, though there is a greater emphasis on the
technical aspect of wrestling. I find that refreshing. I love the catch as catch
can style. I just finished reading Chris Jericho's book. He wrestled in Hamburg
while he was here. I find it interesting to now be right where he was 10 years
ago. I saw a European match that I found intriguing. In it they wrestled in
rounds. I thought that was pretty cool.
WF: Your gimmick seems to be a
heel gimmick, but the German fans in Uelzen gave you the biggest pops of the
night. Did you expect that reaction from the fans?
AOS: No, I did not. I
expected them to not react as strongly. I was pleasantly surprised that they
took a liking to me. Usually I am a Heel and I get booed. But I think the German
fans are so into the wrestling that they don't care whether I am a heel or face,
they like the way I wrestle and want to see me beat someone’s ASS!
WF:
You are the current Full Effect Wrestling Heavyweight Champion. Can you tell us
more about FEW and your title defenses especially in Europe?
AOS: FEW is
one of the premier wrestling companies in Texas. The company puts on shows in
East-Texas. We have some of the top talent in Texas and Louisiana on our roster.
Our production team is topnotch. We also put on some of the hardest hitting
matches in the states. I will be defending the title on Feb 23rd at Catch
Wrestling Norddeutschland, in Marburg on the 1st of March for German Stampede
Wrestling, and I will wrap up the tour in Coventry, England (near Birmingham)
for Triple X Wrestling.
WF: You have had numerous try outs for the WWE
and were invited to go to OVW to train there. What does this invitation mean to
you?
AOS: Well it was quite an accomplishment. I was planning on moving
up there to try and get a developmental deal with the WWE. Before I came to
Germany there were some rumors of WWE severing ties with OVW. Now it seems that
the rumor is true and that WWE has moved all of their talent to FCW in Florida.
So I'll have to decide on my next move once I get back to the States.
WF:
What do you think about WWE’s wellness policy?
AOS: I think it’s a good
idea. Hopefully it will save lives. I think it will help place a bigger emphasis
on the wrestling and the hiring of individuals that have studied and become
proficient at their craft rather than the focus on bigger muscles. However I do
think you need to look the part of a wrester. If you are going to be in the ring
you need to be in good shape, just do it naturally.
WF: Who is your
favorite wrestler at the moment and why?
AOS: As far as WWE guys Randy
Orton and Edge. They are young and brash. I like their "I'm better than you"
attitude. They seem to really go out of their way to get their characters over.
Their matches are always exciting. I take a lot of quos from those two.
On the Indy level, my favorite wrestler is Super Dragon! He’s awesome.
He is able to convey his emotions and his bully attitude to the fans even though
he rarely talks and wears a full face mask. I think he is the master of body
language! His style is very intense.
As a wrestling fan I loved the Rock
and Triple H during the Attitude Era! They were young and worked really hard.
They were exciting to watch and listen too on the microphone. I thank they both
have had amazing careers.
When I was a little boy my favorites were Kevin
Von Erich and Terry Taylor. They were both quick and athletic and would kick
their opponent’s teeth in.
WF: Do you want to say something to the German
wrestling fans?
AOS: Just that I am Happy to be here. I hope they enjoy
my Hybrid style of wrestling. It’s an honor to perform for you all!
WF:
Thank you very much for this interview and good luck for your
future!
AOS: Thank you. See you at the next show! |
