WF: First of all, thank you for the interview. How are you? RS: Good thank you
WF: When and why did you start
fighting? RS: My great grandfather my grand father my
father uncles basically all the men in my family were boxers and that's
how i fell in to the fight game. I mean i wasn't looking to be come a
fighter i wanted to be a cop/police man when i was younger, as i was
growing up i loved watching Jacky Chan, Bruce Lee and all
the other martial artist that was in the movies. So one day a friend of
mine asked if i wanted to go with him to one of his classes, at first i
didn't know what classes he was talking about because i didn't know that
he was doing any form of martial arts. Then he said that he had been
take wing chun for a year or so, so i went along and on that day i
joined up. I did wing chun for 5 years then from there i change
styles and went on to start mauy thai > boxing, in the year 2000 i started
training jujitsu with a friend of mine Royce Grace and the rest is
history.... I had my first fight in the ring when i was 18 years
old...
WF: Who has been your biggest influence in life and
fighting? RS: I would have to say my family and friends
which is also my team
WF: What is your ultimate goal in
K-1? RS: The same as every one else and that is to win
the grand prix, of course out side of that is to see K-1 grow to the
highest level and create more opportunity for up and coming
fighters..
WF: What is your biggest weapon in a
fight? RS: I would have to say two taurus 38 super
pistols no just kidding, It's hard to say because i work on everything
regarding my fight game but if i had to pick my strongest weapon it
would have to be my mind.
WF: What do you think you will be
doing after your fighting days are over? RS: Right now i'm doing a few things here and there with film and i would
really like to do more of that now and also when i'm done with fighting.
The other thing i like to get more in to also is commentating for the
sport..
WF: What are the strengths and weaknesses in your fight
game? RS: Strengths, well like i said earlier it would
have to be my mind and weaknesses well i would have to say that going
back a few year now it would have to be my weight but of course i don't
have a problem with that now i'm more careful of what i'm eating now
a days. Of course every now and then i would eat some junk food i
mean a little amount is ok every now and then not like before.. ha ha ha
ha
WF: How do you develop your strategy for each
fight? RS: I know most of the guys i'm going to be up
against so i don't strategist to much...
WF: What was the
biggest challenge in your career so far? RS: I think
the biggest challenge would have to be dealing with injuries..
WF: You won your last fight against Melvin Manhoef at the
K-1 World GP 2006 Final. Can you tell us somethin about the
fight? RS: Melvin is a great fighter, when K-1 told me
that i was going to be fighting him i had asked for some tapes on him so
that i can see who i was going to be facing. What i saw on video was a
guy that was very fast and very strong a complete fighter. I was
impressed with how he put thing together in the ring, about the fight
well there isn't much to say because it didn't last to
long.
WF: What have you done since your last fight? RS: After the last fight i went to Prague for the K-1 show
there the turn out was amazing and the people were just great they made
me feel like i was at home, can't wait to go back.. From there i
went to New Zealand to surprise my mom and dad for xmas. For new years
i was back home in Las Vegas and a week later back to training for
the next fight...
WF: Do you already know, when you have
your next fight and who your next oponent will be? RS: I know i'm fighting in march in Japan but not sure who i will
be facing...
WF: In your carrer, you had one mixed
martial arts fight agains Min Soo Kim at K-1-Hero's 2. How was
ist to fight under MMA Rules? Do you want to have more MMA
fights in future? RS: For sure i mean it's so different to k-1
rules but i guess that's the fun of it all is doing something different,
yes i would love to do more mma so maybe i would have one this year we
will see...
WF: Your Nickname is Sugarfoot. How did you get
this name? RS: When i'm boxing it's Sugar Ray so when
i'm kick boxing it's Sugar foot but i don't use sugarfoot any more it's
just Sugar Ray now...
WF: Do you have a message for your fans in
Germany, Austria and Switzerland? RS: Yes to
all the fans in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland i would like to say
thank you so much for all your love and support, i'm also very thankful
for all the e-mails i'm getting from everyone you have no idea how it
makes me feel when i read all your mail. Thank you so much and God bless
